Chewing Almonds Gives Your Body More Energy

LAFAYETTE, INDIANA—A recent study conducted at Purdue University and presented at the 2013 Institute of Food Technologists Annual Meeting & Food Expo found that the more times you actually chew almonds the greater energy retention within your body.

The study analyzed a group of participants. All subjects chewed almonds 10 times, 25 times, and 40 times. The researchers then analyzed their fat and energy lost by the number of chews.

The team found that with fewer chews, more energy was lost because the body eliminated the big particles. On the other hand, more chews were associated with higher energy because the smaller particles were easily absorbed into the system. The study also noted that when your diet is higher in fiber (almonds have high fiber) there is a greater loss of fat because of the amount of energy consumed by your body.

According to professor of foods and nutrition at Purdue University, Dr. Richard Mattes:

“The more you chew, the less is lost and more is retained in the body.”

If you are interested in receiving more energy and losing more fat, you might want to consider consuming almonds and chewing them at least 30 times.
