Easy Way to Lower Stroke Risk

HONOLULU – Research presented at the American Stroke Association‘s International Stroke Conference 2013 indicated that people who ate plenty of fruits and vegetables were able to greatly reduce their risk of stroke.

The study consisted of over 20,000 adults over the age of 45 from 48
states. Each subject underwent a medical assessment to measure their weight, height, and blood pressure. Additionally, they were surveyed on what foods they ate.

The research team followed up with the subjects at six month intervals and found that people whose diets consisted of lots of fruits, vegetables and whole grains – at least five times a week – were 29 percent less likely to have a stroke compared to those who ate very little of these foods – no more than three times a week.

If you would like to reduce your risk of stroke substantially you might want to commit to making fruits and vegetables a regular part of your diet.
