Carotenoids Can Protect Against Breast Cancer
BOSTON – New research conducted at Harvard Medical School and published in the Dec. 6th issue of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute indicates that consumption of carotenoids can inhibit tumor growth and reduce the spread of breast cancers.
For this research the team evaluated carotenoid levels and the incidence of breast cancer in subjects from eight previous studies.
The researchers were able to find a statistically significant correlation between higher levels of carotenoid intake and breast cancer.
The research team concluded:
“A diet high in carotenoid-rich fruits and vegetables offers many health benefits, including a possible reduced risk of breast cancer.”
Some foods that are rich in carotenoids are:
· Bell Peppers
· Sweet potatoes
