Increase Your Good Cholesterol by Ten Percent
HOUSTON – New research conducted at the Methodist Hospital and scheduled to be published in the Journal of Lipid Research suggests that exercise can actually increase the production of HDL cholesterol (good cholesterol).
Subjects were assigned to an intensive exercise group or a second group which just offered education on lifestyle changes.
After following the participants for one year the exercise group had significant improvements in their total measure of fat, fitness levels and blood sugar levels.
Additionally, the exercise group also had their HDL cholesterol levels increase almost ten percent compared to the education group which showed no improvement.
According to lead researcher Dr. Christie Ballantyne:
“What we’re learning is that even overweight people who are physically active and eating a healthy diet are getting benefits from the lifestyle change. When you exercise and diet, you’re improving the function of your adipose tissue, your heart and vascular systems, and even muscle performance. You’re getting a lot of benefits that you may not see by just looking at the weight on a scale.”
This research shows that regular exercise not only improves your physique but can actually improve your internal molecular structure.
