Lower Blood Pressure With Swimming
AUSTIN, TEXAS – A new study published in the American Journal of Cardiology showed that swimming lowered blood pressure among elder adults an average of 9 points.
With numerous studies linking high blood pressure to cardiovascular illness and stroke researchers were enthusiastic about this new research. In the study that lasted 3 months the subjects were broken into two groups.
One group was taught relaxation exercises and the other group swam 3-4 times a week. The relaxation group had no change in either their blood pressure or how their blood vessels were dilating in response to blood flow. However, the group that swam had the lower blood pressure and better blood vessel dilation.
With the fact that swimming is very low impact, so it’s easy on joints and this new study, you might want to look into if regular swimming might be a good way for you to exercise.
